👨‍🌾 About the Coffee producer:

Hidden in the rugged southwest of Colombia, Nariño is a region defined by dramatic landscapes, volcanic soils, and a vibrant coffee heritage. Home to more than 40,000 smallholders—many farming less than a hectare—Nariño contributes only 4% of the country’s total production, yet its prestige in the specialty coffee world reaches far beyond its volume.

The region’s steep slopes, fertile volcanic soil, and cool Andean breezes create ideal conditions for slow cherry maturation and complex cup profiles. Its diverse microclimates, ranging from humid coastal plains to temperate high mountain plateaus, allow farmers to produce remarkably distinctive coffees.

within this environment grows the coffee of Emerson Chazoi, a member of the Indigenous Inga community and part of the new generation shaping Aponte’s future. A university student of Social Communication, Emerson remains deeply committed to his family’s coffee farm. Coffee not only supports his studies but also fuels his curiosity and desire to expand his knowledge.

He actively participates in farm work and community initiatives, supporting local leaders and serving as a young role model. His journey reflects the promise of Inga youth: using coffee as both an economic foundation and a bridge between cultural heritage and a forward-looking vision. The Inga people of Aponte nurture their land through a worldview deeply rooted in Mother Earth. After reclaiming their ancestral territory, they have built a thriving coffee culture based on resilience, environmental respect, and cultural pride. Projects like this represent far more than coffee—they embody identity, dignity, and a shared hope for a sustainable and peaceful future.
