👨🌾 About the Coffee producer:
Located in the majestic Andean Massif of southwestern Colombia, Cauca is a region where dramatic landscapes and rich cultural heritage come together to produce exceptional coffee. Home to more than 23,000 coffee-farming families across 75,800 hectares, Cauca contributes nearly 10% of Colombia’s total coffee production, making it the country’s fourth-largest coffee-producing region.
Despite longstanding sociopolitical challenges—ranging from illicit coca cultivation to armed conflict and pressures on natural resources—Cauca’s coffee growers continue to produce outstanding quality coffees. Their work reflects resilience, deep agricultural knowledge, and a profound connection to the land.
Gerardo Montenegro Paz, born and raised in the mountainous municipality of El Tambo, embodies this spirit. An agronomical engineer by training and a natural leader, he has dedicated decades to the National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia, serving in regions such as Cesar, La Guajira, and—between 2009 and 2023—back in his native Cauca.
Today, as the National Technical Director of the Federation, Gerardo channels his passion for rural development into elevating Cauca’s global reputation as a source of consistently high-quality coffees. Admired in his home region for his ethical leadership, community commitment, and long-term vision for a thriving coffee sector, he is seen as a true “prophet in his own land.” His work ensures that Cauca’s coffee legacy not only endures but grows stronger for generations to come.
